On this episode of our podcast #BreakthroughBarriersWithDamali corporate marketing professional (and screenplay writer) Leonora Vernon and Damali were able to give the caller their opinion on turning their hobby/passion into a “side hustle”.
All great companies begin with passion. The way Damali was able to muster up the confidence to start both of my businesses actually began with her discovering what she was passionate about. She sat down and wrote down all the things she knew how to do. Then, she circled all the things she loved doing. She noticed that amongst the things she loved to do there were common themes. Being a lawyer, mediator, educator and a “fixer” (an Olivia Pope if you will) were the bases for both my businesses.
It may be hard to focus on our hobbies when life is happening all around us. Work, school, children and other responsibilities sometimes have to come before our hobbies. Try to work around your current schedule. There are online classes and even apps that can educate you on so many different subjects. Use those resources.
Look for mentors or allies that will help you turn your side hustle into something that will generate revenue. Don’t be afraid to take risks and ask for help. The worst thing that can happen is you will hear a couple of no’s. Those no’s will only make hearing “yes” wayyy sweeter.
Invest in yourself and believe in your power. Once you’re doing what you love, it won’t feel like work. Failure is part of the process. More often than not what may seem as a failure turns out to be a lesson. As long as you have an alignment of timing and opportunity, you are on the right path.
